What is a Re-Engineered Compressor™?
A Re-Engineered Compressor™ is fitted with primarily new parts that are developed to the industry's highest standards and offer the longest standard warranty on the market.
What is CMP doing with compressors?
CMP acquired our only local remanufacturer, Southwest Compressors, in February 2013 as a research and development opportunity. The information provided by our research has allowed us to enter the Re-Engineered Compressor™ market. We plan to take old compressors and re-engineer them with primarily new CMP-produced parts.
Why is CMP entering this market?
When the local remanufacturer closed, there was an unfilled need in the Oklahoma City market. What began as a research and development project led to some surprising findings. We realized that we could take old compressors, fit them with primarily-new CMP parts. Additionally, this provides us with greater research and development opportunities to continually improve our current replacement parts.
When will this happen?
We are launching our Re-Engineered Compressors™ in January 2014
How does this affect current CMP customers?
There is no change other than there will be new and improved parts coming to market soon. This provides CMP a great research and development opportunity that was not afforded to us under our traditional methods. Additionally, Re-Engineered Compressors™ offer our current customers the option of buying complete compressors that have the same high-quality as our compressor parts. Rest assured that we will continue our nearly 50-year legacy of providing our customers with our industry-leading compressor parts and we are primarily focusing on our local market.
What compressor models will CMP carry?
- Carrier - 06E
- Carrier - 06D
- Carrier - 5H
- Copeland - 4R, 6R
- Copeland - 4D, 6D
- Copeland - 9R
- Copeland - 3D
- Trane - E
What internal parts does CMP replace?
Every Re-Engineered Compressor™ will have the following new components:
- main bushings
- thrust bushings
- connecting rods
- pistons
- wrist pins
- piston rings
- oil pumps
- oil strainers
- suction screens
- shaft seals (where used)
- valve plates (with included suction and discharge reeds, pins, backers, & bolts)
- terminal seals
- terminal bolts
- terminal insulators
How large is CMP's compressor inventory?
Surprisingly small. We've designed our manufacturing cell to respond to customer demand with speed and efficiency. We stock fewer compressors in a finished state, but are able to complete a build to your exact specifications - typically in less than two hours. We employ Lean Manufacturing techniques which allow us to "pull" a build through our cell, rather than traditional manufacturing methods that "push" unsold compressors into a large warehouse inventory which is expensive to maintain and control.
How do I order a Re-Engineered Compressor™?
The same way that you order compressor parts! We have a new online ordering tool that allows you to enter the model number of the compressor that you are wanting to replace and complete the purchase online. You can also call, email, or fax your order.
Doesn't replacing all those internal parts make your compressors more expensive?
No. We are in a unique situation with our Re-Engineered Compressors™ because we manufacture parts in-house and keep a very lean stock of machines. We are able to replace old, worn components at a lower cost than anyone else in the industry. The time savings offset the cost of the parts.
So, you don't use OEM parts in your Re-Engineered Compressors™?
Not when we can avoid it. We have been in the parts manufacturing business for almost 50 years. And we have seen the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) making changes to parts that lower their manufacturing costs at the expense of precision and durability, particularly in the aftermarket. For example, many OEMs have switched their connecting rods to a "die cast" casting. Die castings can be poured to a greater precision, which requires less final machining and lower costs, but at the expense of less strength due to a decrease in grain structure of the original casting. CMP uses permanent mold castings, or forgings, for our connecting rods which makes them stronger and more durable. Die castings are great for children's toys, but not so great for compressor durability.
Will there be a warranty?
Yes. Every Re-Engineered Compressor™ will carry the industry's longest standard warranty against defects in material and workmanship.
What's next?
We will continue to evaluate the compressor market and our role in it. We are actively developing overhaul kits for screw compressors, including the rotors. We hope to offer these products to our customers soon.
